Course description

This program provides a path for experienced practitioners in the health professions and other graduates to further develop their expertise and undertake research in professional settings. The professional doctorates take the equivalent of three years’ full-time study, the first year consisting of coursework in compulsory and elective units, and second and third year of a research thesis and doctoral colloquia. A particular strength of the programs is the possibility of taking up to 75 per cent of the coursework in units with a strong practical and/or clinical orientation. This component of the program incorporates a flexible model of individual contacts with students. Supervision is by appropriately qualified staff from the School in which the students are enrolled.

This course aims to provide opportunities for postgraduate students to further their understanding of the statistical modelling of physical, biological and economic phenomena so they can contribute to applied research and development in industry, commerce and research.

It gives particular emphasis to analysis of data using computer-related technology. Students select studies from a wide range of components and complete an externally examined minor thesis in their second year.
