Faculty of Science and Engineering
The Liberal Science Programme aims to provide a broad-based education in a number of science subjects. The Programme also aims to develop a critical maturity with an intellectually challenging choice of courses in non-science disciplines. The Liberal Science degree is designed to serve the needs of students who wish to emphasize, in the context of a liberal education, an understanding of the status, concepts, and orientations of modern science.
Career Opportunities
The degree provides a suitable background for a number of professions. Graduates may anticipate careers in science information processing, e.g., science librarians, public relations, technical writing, journalism, or they may continue their studies to pursue other professions such as teaching, law, medical professions, and others. Professionals in the work force may also upgrade their skills and knowledge with the degree. Because the programme is flexible, it can be established to fit divergent career plans. It is well suited for people who wish to study part-time, and through distance education.

Lander University
Military Science and Leadership
The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) is one of four ways to receive an Appointment as a United States Army Officer. Although West Point, Officer’s Candidate School, and the Direct Commissioning process serve as the other three options, the 272 College ROTC Departments across the nation annually commission over half of the Army’s 2nd Lieutenants.
In terms of a general overview, the ROTC curriculum is divided into two distinct courses: the Basic Course and the Advanced Course. Each course differs in regard to who can participate and also in regard to one’s overall military obligation. For detailed information on the basic or advanced course see our About the Program section.
Our ROTC Department here at Lander is part of a partnership between Presbyterian College, Newberry College, and Lander University. The ROTC Departments at these three schools combine to form the Scottish Highlander Battalion.
For more information, please contact the Lander University Military Science department at (864) 388-8331 or you may contact our ROTC Cadre member located at Lander, CPT Adrienne Bradley; her e-mail address is abradley@lander.edu. The ROTC Department is located on the corner of Willson St. and Daniel Ct. across from the gym and Brookside dormitories, and next to Lide dormitories.

Lancaster University Centre for e-Science.
Alexandra Square
The general objectives of the Lancaster Centre for e-Science are:
to accelerate the development of a new kind of computing and data management infrastructure for the social sciences, and to support the increasingly national and global collaborations emerging in many areas of science.
These activities will enable many researchers in management, social science and related fields to build models that acknowledge the full complexity of many social and economic phenomena. Research at the forefront of quantitative social science requires comprehensive approaches to model complex observational social and economic processes. A comprehensive model is one in which many of the interdependencies in the process are incorporated. E-Science will also lead to the creation of better evidence based substantive theory, more reliable forecasts, the determination of the most influential policy instruments and thus it will improve policy effectiveness. The computing power needed to use multiple large and complex data sets, and to use recent methodological developments in order to disentangle the multiple mechanisms at work in comprehensive models, are only just becoming available. The increase in computational power offered by e-Science promises to open the door to a new world.
