School Media Track leads to the 076 North Carolina Media Coordinator lucensure for K-12 school librarians. Those with a previous “A” level teacher certification follow a 39 hour master’s program. Students who have never been certified as a teacher can pursue the 51 hour master’s program to earn degree and “M” level licensure. Students who have previously earned a Master’s degree in another educational field may be able to complete a 30-33 hour school media licensure track.
Public Library Track leads to the North Carolina public librarian certification.
Students may also pursue both School Media licensure and Public Library certification simultaneously (Dual Track).

The emphasis of the Library Science and Information Services program is the education of school librarians, organized around the philosophy that the role of the school librarian is that of a teacher and a generalist with specialization in PK-12 information services. School librarians work with students and teachers to facilitate access to information, instruct students and teachers how to acquire, evaluate, and use information and the technology needed in this process, and introduce children and young adults to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons. The Department of Library & Information Sciences proudly announces its 35 years of existenance and continued growth and successfully trained 34 batched of M.L.I.Sc. There is a general decline in the quantum of applications to different post-graduate courses,yt Libraty & Information Course still enjoys the demand ratio of 1:10.In the last five years (2002-2007),125 M.L.I.Sc.graduates have been awarded the degree and 5 scholars have been with Ph.D.degree in Library & Information Sceince.
