The Geology Department at SIUC consists of 11 faculty members plus instructors, support staff, and about 70 enthusiastic undergraduate, MS, and PhD students. A recent external review characterized us as "a very good to excellent mid-sized geology department." Earth science is one of the broadest and most interdisciplinary of all sciences. It involves the interaction of chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and geology in the ongoing effort to explore Earth's interior, atmosphere and oceans, and to understand the environment in which we live, the causes for global change, and the history of life on Earth.
