Why Should I Study Exercise Science at Southeast?
Southeast’s exercise science program offers you the chance to work with state-of-the-art equipment in our 1,400-square-foot Exercise Physiology Laboratory.
Our exercise science faculty are committed to involving undergraduate and graduate students in research activities. You will have opportunities to contribute to faculty research projects, thus expanding your professional knowledge and credentials. Over the past four years, students have been recognized more than 30 times as authors or co-authors of presentations and publications involving a faculty member’s research.
As an exercise science student, you will have the opportunity to earn essential hands-on experience through an internship in a health and fitness facility or clinic. These opportunities are available locally or at sites across the nation to offer you flexibility and a wide variety of settings from which to choose.
Southeast’s exercise science program also offers you additional first-hand learning opportunities through a practicum class and other experiential learning opportunities that are incorporated into our curriculum, which will help you refine your skills and better prepare you for a career in exercise science.
As a student in Southeast’s exercise science program, you will benefit from working with the latest equipment used in exercise science, therapy, and physical rehabilitation.
Our student organizations give you the chance to further enhance your professional skills and provide you with the opportunity to network with professionals in the health management field.
Southeast students benefit from small classes and a low student-faculty ratio of 17 to 1.

Career Opportunities
Careers in the exercise science field include a wide variety of settings and target populations. Common job titles that describe opportunities in this field include: exercise specialist, health and fitness specialist, personal trainer, fitness specialist, health/fitness instructor, fitness instructor.
There are a number of career paths that a graduate of an exercise science program can follow. These include exercise physiologist, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation professional, personal trainer, group exercise instructor, and strength and conditioning coach, just to name a few. The career paths generally describe the kind of work the individuals do and the populations with whom they work.

The mission of Skidmore's Exercise Science program is to study and expand the relationship among physical activity, nutrition, and human health. Prepare for Your Career
Central Missouri's undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students for careers that require the methods of reasoning, model building procedures, and problem-solving skills that are learned in mathematics, computer science, and actuarial science classes. The department offers majors in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Secondary Mathematics Education, and a Mathematics minor that leads to certification to teach math in grades 5-9. A Master of Science degree program with options in both pure and applied mathematics is also available.
